I was just invited to join the facebook group “Petition to remove “Soldiers are not heroes” from facebook“. I found interesting what I found, when I checked out the group.  In its description it says that the group is an answer to this group – “Soldiers are not heroes“. I just want to ask all of you to check out these two groups and figure out what you think.

I will try to hold back my own opinion and just give you the facts I found, for you to consider and decide yourself.

These are quotes from the descriptions of these two groups. All people who joined each group agreed on what it says on there. By now, 633,277 people joined the first group (“Petition to remove “Soldiers are not heroes” from facebook“) and 4,411 people joined the other group (“Soldiers are not heroes“)

We also find it amusing how so many of those who claim to “protect our freedoms of speech” tell us to shut up, or be duffed up. - 4,411 people agreed

Our brave troops fighting for our freedom do not deserve this kind of abuse. Anybody who doesn’t support them should be removed from this country and facebook. – 633,277 people agreed

Soldiers are not heroes. They can be heroes, they can act heroically, they can do heroic things – but the act of putting on a uniform and agreeing to put your conscience in a lockbox for the next so many years does not make your life more important than others, it does not make your opinions and insights more worthy of respect than others, it does not exempt you from moral judgement. It does not make you a hero. - 4,411 people agreed

Also very interesting are the wall entries and the messages on the discussion boards – eventhough you have to keep in mind, that these comments are individually posted and not common belief of all the members.

Some days it’s harder to believe in the good in people then on others. Today is one of them.

“Surely, if slauftherhauses had glass walls, would not all of us be vegetarians? But slaughterhouses do not have glass walls. The architecture of slaughter is opaque, designed in the interest of denial to insure that we will not see even if we wanted to look. And who wants to look?”

I don’t know why it happend, but today I had an opportunity to look. I didn’t want to, I didn’t like to, but I had the impression to have some obligation, to be responsible. And so I forced myself to look, to watch for over 30 full minutes.

I don’t remember any time passing by that slowly. I have watched, forced myself to. I have watched, I have suffered, I have cried, I have even almost puked.

Several monthes ago I decided for my life that I do not want to deny, I do not want to look away, I do not want to ignore – no matter what is wrong! I do not want to oversee discrimination, racism, sexism, or any other violation of others rights. Till today for me “others rights” was equal to “human rights”. Now I see things differently. Now I think every earthling has certain rights. Of course we will have to kill, of course we will have to eat, of course we will (have to) rule the earth. But still, there are other creatures on this planet, other earthlings – treating them the way we do, is wrong – at least if I force myself to look and deny to ignore I feel it – deep in my heart. It hurts!

For me, and my life, I have decided to not ignore things that hurt me inside of me. I will listen closly, so now it is up to me to take action. Now knowing about all these aweful things, I will adopt, change my behavior towards these animals. I’m not sure what action this will be, I have to think about it! I’ll tell you as soon as I know. In the meantime it’s up to you to figure out, what you think, if you think you should take action! It’s all up to you!

Never forget: Everytime you pruchase something – you ask the producer to produce this very same product exactly the same way again!
